Show Description
DOVER TOWNSHIP - A two-month festival marking the dedication of the fine arts building at Ocean County College is scheduled to begin sometime in September. William A. Schoenfeld, a member of the college faculty, has been named to head a committee representing the college. Dover Township, and community groups to plan "The Arts: a Celebration of Life." Already scheduled are a performance by the Joffrey II ballet troupe on Sept. 23 and an evening with satirist Jean Shepherd Oct. 6. Several art shows and lecture-demonstrations are planned in addition to formal performances. College officials say they want the festival to cover a broad spectrum of the arts including film making, theater, sculpture, painting, ballet, crafts and pop, folk, symphonic, and choral music. Although parts of the building are expected to be used this summer, the entire $1.4 million structure won't be opened until the start of the fall semester. The building includes a 600-seat auditorium which can be divided into three teaching areas, as well as classrooms for art-oriented courses. The building is part of a $3.5 million expansion program which is nearing completion The new buildings included a nursing arts hall, student center addition, and bookstore. The college has revealed plans for an $8 million expansion program which would nearly double the number of facilities to cope with an expected enrollment of 3,260 full-time students by 1980. Already on the drawing boards are plans for a $1.3 million administration building and renovation of present college offices in the learning resources center for library and faculty office use. The committee planning the celebration will meet at 1:40pm Thursday in the student center. Tryouts for dancers to participate in a lecture demonstration are set for 7:30 Thursday in the lecture hall.
