"one of his first works was an article for a school newspaper describing what it's like to sustain a broken nose in a football game and begin experiencing pain as fans cheer." Was this the Calumet Herald? http://hhs59.com/herald1.htm

Dear Mr. Clavin, I work in the marketing department of Queen Anne Candy, and we are in the process of trying to unearth as much history about our company as possible. Although the company's manufacturing facility is now located in Michigan, for many years it had a home in Hammond, Indiana. Doing an internet search, we were thrilled to come across your website and find that Jean Shepherd once spoke about visiting the Queen Anne factory as a boy (6/29/67: "Inventions; Job in Piano Factory"). I was wondering if you could provide us with some more information as to how we can obtain Jean Shepherd's description of his visit. Is this a talk he gave, or is this part of a short story in one of his books? I would very much appreciate any information or guidance in this matter. Thank you very much; I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Nicole Schubert Queen Anne Candy - A Division of Gray & Company 1634 SW Alder St. Portland, OR 97205 (P) 503-552-3923 (F) 503-552-3939 www.queenannecandy.com

[Lowell] I was really fanatical about getting the dates correct - I'm guessing that they are at least 95% correct if not 100%. Gene did provide a list of dates for me. The shows did not come out in the correct order on the CDs because I hadn't figured out all the dates of the fragments of shows as I transferred them to disc. I found that I would be satisfied with the date of a fragment, and then I would find the remaing part of the show on another cassette tape! But I think you should be able to connect the pieces together based on the list that you should have. If you don't have that list let me know. I can't remember if I included any "overlap" on the segments so that you could match up the segments and convince yourself that one segment really does connect to another. I think I didn't leave overlap, if I had to guess, just so it would be easier to connect the segments on CD at a later time (i.e. now!). But Gene had rolled back the master tape a slight bit when he changed cassettes so that the connection point was apparent to me. Let me know if there are any segments which truly don't match up by noting that the context of the narrative changes (although that might be hard to spot on a Shepherd tape!)

"Crackerjacks" May 16, 1967 - I don't do this show every night - there are six Jean Shepherds, I'm #3 "Fake Shepherds" - Apr/May 1968 - Shep 'admits' that there are many Jean Shepherds that do the appearances and radio show, he'sw one of them.

From: jim-c@flicklives.com To: rvbadagli@hotmail.com Subject: Re: Amazon Trip, 1965 Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2008 08:45:03 -0500 Barry Farber did indeed interview the chief and brought him to NY for it. It was after that interview that when Farber won a raffle of a lot of candy which he could donate to his favorite charity that he came up with the idea of giving it to the tribe that this Chief came from and having Shep deliver it! Thus Shep's trip to Peru. The photographer, Greg Potemkin, that went along took a lot of photos, but was killed in a plane crash several years later with his wife, leaving everything to his son. His son was in touch with me, but the only photo that survived over the years is one I have on the website. I would assume some publicity stills were taken for the trip to the World's Fair. http://www.flicklives.com/temp/temp.htm Jim ----- Original Message ----- From: Richard Badagliacca To: jim-c@flicklives.com Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2008 8:29 PM Subject: Amazon Trip, 1965 Hi Jim. A few years ago I was hot on the trail (I thought) of getting photos of Shep in Peru. The trail went cold after I spoke to someone who knew the tribal chief but could not produce any photos of the trip. >From left field I was recently contacted by someone in that same organization who says he has several photos of the chief both in Peru & at the World's Fair. I'm thinking the Fair trip might also have included the interview with Barry Farber (I hope I'm not imagining this). Maybe Shep was also in some of the photos. Do you know if I'm right about the Farber interview ? And do you know of any photos of Shep's group that went to Peru ? The contact person offered to make a CD at nominal cost of the photos. I'll see how that plays out. Hope you're all settled in by now. Rich
